Physical custody determines where your child lives and who cares for him or her. Child custody and support are matters of national and federal law. Every state except Massachusetts has adopted the Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act (UCCJEA). The UCCJEA requires that the state of origin of this child, defined as the place where they lived six consecutive months prior to the trial, be subject to custody proceedings against a particular child. If a child has not lived in any state for six consecutive months, his or her state of origin is defined as the state with significant ties to the child and at least one of the parents, as well as essential evidence of the child`s care. As soon as a state accepts the case, known as jurisdiction, it retains control of the case until a court decides that the child no longer has any connection to that state. Custody is the right to make decisions for your child. Both parents can take legal action for custody of the children. Before or after a hearing, the judge may ask the parents and the child to attend counselling meetings in an attempt to develop an agreement. The judge may consider the councillor`s report in a decision. Parental plans (also known as custody agreements) explain how parents work together to raise their children.

During the summer holidays, parents have the option to change the daycare schedule because they do not need to plan around the school. Under the child care plan, this could mean giving a parent the majority of the summer break with the child, choosing a totally different housing option for the summer months, or complying with the current child care regime, but planning the leave period with both parents. When parents change their summer care regime, they should discuss the start and end dates of the summer schedule with details. When parents try to enter into a PA child care contract themselves, without any structured guidance or support, this often creates a state of chaos and hostility. Not only does this complicate matters, but it also creates overwhelming emotional stress, as well as insecurity, hostility, anger and potential resentment throughout life.
