We had a guest player this week. Mike Byrd joined us for a 5-player game of Agricola<\/a><\/em>. Agricola<\/em> is a game all about farm management and development. Sounds exciting doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t it? Well I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not sure I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d call it exciting, but it is<\/em> challenging. As noted by my stellar performance in this game and the two previous games we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve played. (You can check out those two previous games here <\/a>and here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Ben has played this game a few more times than we have\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6and still doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have the rules right. But that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s ok. We happily gave him a ton of grief about it. As our game progressed we had another one of those \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Steve\u00e2\u20ac\u009d moments where \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Steve\u00e2\u20ac\u009d goes to make a play and Ben (and others) tell \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Steve\u00e2\u20ac\u009d it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a bad play. But \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Steve\u00e2\u20ac\u009d wants to make the play. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Steve\u00e2\u20ac\u009d has a plan. Ben (and others) warn \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Steve\u00e2\u20ac\u009d again. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Steve\u00e2\u20ac\u009d still makes the play\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6and after it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s too late, realizes it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a bad play. If only someone would have warned me.<\/p>\n

None of us were too surprised when Ben won the game with 32 points. Owen came in a very strong second with 26 points. Owen got a ton of his points from his major and minor improvements; to the tune of around 14 points. The rest of us garnered mere 1-5 points from our improvements. Mike Byrd, who had never played before, got a very respectable 21 points. Mike\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 19 points were just enough so he would not be tied with me for last place. (I had 18 points.) In all three of the Agricola<\/em> games we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve played, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been last. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not bitter though. I could see from the beginning of this<\/em> game, that I did not have a good plan. Heck, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not even sure I had a plan at all. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not sure what Mike\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s excuse was.<\/p>\n
